A School for Lovers

Reworks in fictional terms the heartbreaking, comic bitter and infuriating plot of Mozart's Cosi fan Tutte. Against the background of a labyrinthine country house in need of restoration, two friends are dared by their manipulative tutor to try to seduce the other's lover. All too soon, idealistic love is beset by misunderstanding and irrational desire. And what begins as a game soon becomes a far darker pursuit...

"An ingenious celebration of Mozart...An entertaiing dance through self-deception to real feeling...

The novel works as Shakespearean comedy, an operetta with majestic settings, quicksilver changes in emotion, an amused but sympathetic tone and the belief that young love is too naive and transitory to be tragic.
